The Weekender: Sun and Sports!

This weekend provided the first truly gorgeous spring weather, and the C&W hopes its readers used that time to soak up a few rays and gulp down a few brew-dawgs.

The weather was particularly nice for the annual Cherry and White football game, which is a intra-squad scrimmage between two equally divided teams. The white squad won 10-0 in what proved to be a defensive battle. The ultimate conclusion is what the word on the street was already saying: our defense rocks and our offense sucks. Check out the photo gallery, compliments of the Temple News, here.

Another big sports story is a perfect Sunday sweep by our beloved philly sports teams. The Phillies won in dramatic fashion courtesy of a Raul Ibanez 2 run, walk-off homerun. The Sixers kept it entertaining as well as they clawed back from 18 down to beat the Magic by 2. They now lead the first round playoff series 1-0. The Flyers finally beat the pengiuns as well, now down 1-2 in the best of seven series.

The women's tennis team took 2nd place in the A-10 finals, losing to champions Richmond 4-0.

While we're on it, here is how the rest of the sports went. Friday: Baseball lost 9-6 v. Charlotte, softball won 8-2 & 9-0 v. Delaware state, women's lacrosse won 14-12 v. St. Bonnie, and women's tennis won 4-0 v. Duquesne. Saturday: Baseball won 8-6 v. Charlotte, women's tennis won 4-1 v. Xavier Muskies, men's and women's track competed in the Greyhound Invitational in Bethlehem, and men's golf took 14th out of 18th at the Boilermaker Invitational. Sunday: baseball got shwooped by Charlotte 14-5, and women's lacrosse lost 14-8 @ Duquesne.
