Owls Win Back-to Back A-10 Titles, Scheduled to Dance with Arizona State University

Last Saturday evening the Temple men's basketball team won the A-10 tournament championship against underdog Duquesne, 69-64 in Atlantic City. Interestingly enough, that was the same score as last year's championship game against St. Hoe's, who Temple also beat to win the title.

Dionte Christmas led all scorers with 29 points, and was also the tournament's MVP for the second year in a row. Joining him on the all tournament team were guard Ryan AP Photo/David Gard
Brooks and center Sergio Olmos.

Duquesne was seeded 7th in the 12 team tournament, and made themselves into the Cinderella team by upsetting the third seeded Rhode Island Rams in the quarterfinals and then the second seeded Dayton Flyers in the semifinals. It was appropriate that the Owls conquered the Cinderella team in the finals, as now the Owls will be doing a bit of dancing on their own. They have been given the 11th seed in the Southern Regional of the 64-team NCAA tournament. They are scheduled to play this Friday against the Arizona State University Sun Devils(25-10) in Miami, Florida.

Notes:
+This is Temple's 8th A-10 Championship, most all time in the league.
+Temple easily had the hometown advantage in Atlantic City, as the Temple fans greatly outnumbered the Duquesne fans, many of whom had to travel from Pittsburgh.
+This is the first time a team has won back to back A-10 titles since the Owls did it in 00-01.
